Listen to this podcast
From the studios of Netcast Central, it's the Business Reality Show.
Also known as Business Success Tips
In a different reality.
In the other reality. And that was Paul overreacting again.
I've got Andy over there.
And I'm not over here.
Not this time?
We've got Lee, passionately quiet.
Hello. Oh, quiet, well I can talk.
We've got Bob again.
And Kera has joined us this time.
Keren. Like the beer.
Keren. That's good. Keren drinking rock star.
Don't forget Steve.
Oh yes, Steve
Steve is online.
He's not in the room, so I forget.
Steve say hello.
I am remote. I am remote.
Doesn't sound like it.
No, that's good.
You sound great.
See, this is great technology. With this Skype thing, we can Skype in people from anywhere in the world.
But there's one problem.
I can't, I can't give the guy a beer, it just doesn't fit through the microphone.
You know, I took care of that on my end.
So you've got your own beer.
Something written into the contracts, they have to be imbibing something.
Actually I have fine wine right now.
It's just as good.
He lives in Marin, they're upscale there.
And so, one thing with Skypeing is going to be interesting. Is can you get a dynamic, like people in a room.
Or is it not going to work?
Paul, I've got this in my mind's eye, I see this giant Paul face, so you might as well be here.
Are you scared Steve, are you scared?
Now, we could do the video thing eventually, right?
Sure. We could Skype video.
Did he have it? Cause he might have a camera located right now, because Paul does have a giant face.
He can do all sorts of disgusting things while we're podcasting, and we don't want to know
The kids are still awake, guys.
Ok. Fine. Fine. They're not going to market explicit, Steve, I tried. They're not gonna do it.
You've got to think about marketing explicit.
With your mouth.
The rest of us don't have to worry.
I see. Thank you for sharing. So, so we're going to talk about business stuff, or do we still want to talk about podcasting stuff?
Let's talk about business stuff.
Ok, we'll talk about business stuff.
Let's talk about making money, man.
Ok, Now one of the things that our listeners want to know, how do I quit my day job and start a business?
A lot of them are asking that. They want the independence.
Now, if I can convince Bob to do that, Gordon's going to be pissed at me. So don't listen to this Bob. Ok?
Alright. I am not going to listen.
Paul, the cornerstone of your strategy is quit your job first, right?
Well, I don't think that's necessarily true.
That's not what we're doing.
I was just kidding.
That's not what we're going.
No. There's a couple things you can do. One is the best of all possible worlds, is to quit, say you're making, I don't know, pick a number, say 40 bucks an hour. You quit your job at 40 bucks an hour and then sell your same services back to that company for 80 bucks an hour as a consultant.
Now that's a good strategy to pull off.
Now, why would they pay 80 bucks when they've been paying 40?
Actually, they don't actually pay 40 when they pay 40.
Because with all benefits and bullshit, they're probably paying like 60.
You're in a different place on their books.
Unless they were just waiting for you to quit. So make sure they just weren't waiting for you to quit.
Right. No, you have to actually have a value to the company, that is true.
Ultimately that may be why Gordon gave me this tip.
It could be.
So what happens is, you sell yourself...
